Public Gardens

Iranians lead a very public life. The traditional Spanish concept of el paseo, in which people go out of their houses into a public place shortly before dusk to be seen and to observe is a familiar one to them.
The environment in which this social activity takes place can be classified under three headings: the traditional, which is generally found in the mosque; the formal which is best described as street landscaping and the contemporary or informal which is best epitomised by the concept of Park, which is very different from the English concept which shares the same name.
