The 18th century palace of Hasht Behesht illustrates the concept admirably. The palace is open to the elements through three great porticos on three of its four sides. In the centre is a pool above which is a spectacular roof vault. Seated beside this pool you are open to the garden which can be seen on three sides and whose scents and sounds are brought into you. The house and garden thus merge with one another and present a uniform experience.
