Contemporary gardens are intended as places in which
to relax and socialise. The emphasis is on informality whether in the casual
nature of the private estate or the twisting paths of
a public park which can lead to obviously recreational areas such as boating
ponds, restaurants and play areas for children. In the evenings the parks
provide a forum for people to bring their friends and share a barbecue,
to meet friends and go for a walk or even to meet or search for a loved one.
Their use is more sociable or gregarious than the English park where there is
a greater emphasis on privacy, segregation or seclusion. |
