The Mausoleum of Baba Qassem - The
Interior

The vaulted roof shown here clearly demonstrates the transition from the square of the mausoleum, through
a series of octagonal squinches to a single point. The decoration of simple blue tiles set into patterned brickwork is clearly of a transitional nature, while
the clarity of the stylised inscriptions, the lower of which are based on the name of 'Ali, the son-in-
law of Muhammad and the upper of which are loosely based on the name of Muhammad
himself, are reminiscent of the simple decorative motifs found in early Seljuk buildings.
