The Porch of Omar - The Interior of
the Eivan

The entrance to the prayer chamber inside the eivan is decorated with this magnificent pair of paeonies in
the spandrels. Six colours have been used in the composition you can clearly see the level of skill which
the craftsmen had achieved by this period. The inscriptions report that the work was commissioned by
"The Restorer of the House of God, Morteza ibn Al-Hasan Al-'Abassi Al-Zeynabi" between
1366 and 1367.
There is more fine tilework on the vault above, and the unusual lettering in the archway below the peonies
announces that they were the work of Hasan-e-Karun.
