The Porch of Omar - The Interior of the Eivan

Map of Masjed-e-Jomeh Peonies

The entrance to the prayer chamber inside the eivan is decorated with this magnificent pair of paeonies in the spandrels. Six colours have been used in the composition you can clearly see the level of skill which the craftsmen had achieved by this period. The inscriptions report that the work was commissioned by "The Restorer of the House of God, Morteza ibn Al-Hasan Al-'Abassi Al-Zeynabi" between 1366 and 1367.

There is more fine tilework on the vault above, and the unusual lettering in the archway below the peonies announces that they were the work of Hasan-e-Karun.
