Jolfa - the Main Square

This shows two of the Christian churches in the Armenian suburb of Jolfa as seen from Jolfa Square. The
Bethlehem Church on the left (1628) and the Church of Mary (1613) on the right. Armenians were settled in
Isfahan by Shah Abbas I who wanted to take advantage of their trading skills and also their wine-making
skills. In addition to its Christian churches the suburb is also famous for its sweetshops.
