Masjed-e-Dashti - The Sanctuary
Chamber

This chamber is an excellent place to view the chahar taq style
of construction. The basic square plan of the building is clearly visible from the above photograph, while two
of the three open archways can be seen on either side. The closed archway in the centre is the
mehrab. The squinches show a simple form of transition, similar to that used to great effect in the Sheikh Lotfallah Mosque some four hundred years later. Contrast this
with the more elaborate squinches in the nearby mosque at Kabutar Abad which stems from the
same period. The latter are sometimes known as tri-lobed squinches, because of the additional semi-squinches
on either side of the main one.
